Rhinoplasty in Manchester.

Nose surgery can change appearance, breathing or both. Understand planning, recovery and the limits of prediction before consulting a surgeon.

What rhinoplasty involves

Rhinoplasty reshapes nasal bone, cartilage and soft tissue. A septorhinoplasty may also address the internal septum and breathing. Technique depends on anatomy and goals; “open” and “closed” describe different surgical access, not a simple good-versus-bad choice.

Planning a proportionate result

Computer imaging may support a discussion but cannot promise an exact outcome. The surgeon should assess skin thickness, structural support, breathing, previous injury or surgery and how proposed changes relate to the rest of the face.

Non-surgical nose filler can camouflage selected contours but adds volume and carries serious vascular risks. It cannot provide the structural or breathing changes of surgery.

Recovery considerations

A splint may be used initially. Congestion, swelling, bruising and temporary changes in sensation are common. Although visible swelling often improves earlier, residual swelling—especially around the tip—may take considerably longer to settle. Follow the surgeon’s activity and aftercare instructions.

Risks and surgeon questions

Risks include bleeding, infection, scarring, altered sensation, breathing problems, asymmetry, dissatisfaction and possible revision surgery. Anaesthetic and clotting risks should also be discussed.

  • Is the surgeon on the relevant GMC specialist register?
  • How often do they perform the proposed type of rhinoplasty?
  • Where is surgery performed and how is the facility regulated?
  • What is the revision policy and who provides urgent aftercare?
  • Which requested changes may not be safely achievable?
Take time. A reputable consultation should make room for reflection rather than pressuring you to book or pay immediately.
