Upper and lower blepharoplasty
Upper-eyelid surgery may remove or reposition selected skin and fat. Lower-eyelid surgery may address bags, fat position or skin through different incision approaches. It will not necessarily treat brow position, dark circles, fine lines or every cause of a tired appearance.
Before surgery
A surgeon should assess eyelid position, brow position, skin, fat, eye closure and symptoms such as dryness. Previous eye surgery, thyroid disease, medicines and visual symptoms may affect planning. Functional visual-field concerns should be distinguished from cosmetic goals.
Recovery
Swelling, bruising, watering or temporary dryness can occur. Vision may be blurred by ointment. Follow instructions about eye care, activity and contact lenses, and know how to reach the surgical team urgently.
Risks and questions
Risks include bleeding, infection, asymmetry, visible scarring, persistent dryness, difficulty closing the eye, eyelid position change and the need for revision. Visual loss is rare but serious.
- Which concern can surgery realistically improve?
- Is brow position or eye health affecting the plan?
- Where will incisions be placed?
- What symptoms require urgent assessment?
- What relevant specialist experience does the surgeon have?
