What surgery changes
Breast reduction removes selected skin and breast tissue, reshapes the breast and repositions the nipple. People may seek it for size-related discomfort, activity limitations, skin irritation or proportion. A consultation should separate hoped-for symptom improvement from cosmetic goals without promising either.
Size and scar planning
An exact cup size cannot be guaranteed. The surgeon should explain likely proportions, incision pattern, tissue removal and whether significant asymmetry can be improved. In some cases nipple blood supply affects the techniques available.
Recovery
Swelling, bruising and soreness are expected. Support garments and temporary lifting or exercise restrictions may be advised. Wounds where scars meet can take longer to heal. Arrange practical support and ask when work, driving and exercise are realistic.
Risks and questions
Risks include bleeding, infection, delayed healing, prominent scars, asymmetry, altered or lost nipple sensation, fat necrosis and possible revision. Breastfeeding ability may be reduced, and rarely nipple or skin tissue can be lost.
